Title of the project: Synthesis and Evaluation of Photoswitchable Monoamine Transporter Inhibitors
Research topic of the student: We aimed at establishing a comprehensive picture of key parameters for photoswitches within the application of this approach towards a photopharmacological platform for monoamine transporter inhibitors. Based on the available information from structural biology of such transporters, a particular case-study was envisioned to establish the first photo-switchable tool compound for this biological target (in particular aiming at SERT). The project involved an elaborate screening of various photo-switch motifs and the subsequent application of lessons-learned in the modification of established transporter inhibitor compounds (such as escitalopram and paroxetine).
