Human brain organoids (mini brains) as epilepsy models.
The search for new treatments for seizures, epilepsy and their comorbidities faces considerable challenges. This is due in part to gaps in understanding the etiology and pathophysiology of the epilepsies and to the difficulties in predicting the impact of potential new treatments. Generation of new models is urgent in the filed of epilepsy. With this project we aim to generate human brain organoids (mini brains) carrying mutations in known epilepsy-causing ion channels and transporters. We will characterize these organoids using several techniques including histology and live imaging.
